Christmas is the most magical and amazing time of year, but unfortunately Christmas shopping can be stressful, especially if done at the last minute. Don’t worry, because we have compiled the best list of local, Ohio Amish Country businesses in order to find that perfect gift for everyone on your list. All of our stores are family owned, as well—so in addition to spoiling your loved ones with beautiful things, you’re also helping our community!
Here are some of our favorite gift ideas for last minute Christmas shopping in Amish Country:
Clothing · Accessories · Shoes · Jewelry
There are some wonderful clothing, accessories, and jewelry stores in town—perfect for your mother, aunt, wife, daughter, or even a business colleague, distant relative, or close friend! Farmhouse Frocks in Millersburg is a mother/daughter team that uses local models as well as local Amish seamstresses to make their goods. They offer a variety of clothing and accessory items, like printed leggings, cardigans, cuffs and jewelry featuring area natural stones, and even a line of t-shirts like their popular “More Faith than Fear” printed tee. They also have a huge collection of Christmas wreaths and ornaments made from local acorns, trees, and other natural elements which is now 50% off.
If you’re in Berlin, try to swing by Village Gift Barn, their slogan is “Never Ordinary, We Promise.” This huge barn styled gift shop has a variety of clothing, decor, and home goods for everyone on your list, and many people travel from hours away to visit and stock up on tees and booties. Moxie also has a lot of really cute, stylish, and reasonably priced clothing and accessories in their super trendy boutique
Outdoors · Sporting Goods
If your gift recipient is more into the great outdoors, you may consider popping into Mt. Hope Harness & Shoe, a local establishment that carries shoes, boots, clothing, ice skates, ammunition, harnesses, fishing supplies and more—they also carry Darn Tough Socks, which are billed as “the greatest socks ever made.” Despite all of that, the best part about Mt. Hope Harness is that they are really great at giving each person individualized attention, especially when it comes to finding the right pair of shoes for their hobby or occupation.
Kidron Sports is also an excellent choice for your sporting goods needs, as they have recently expanded their stores, located in two separate locations to be convenient to all in both Kidron and Berlin. They have more standard sporting goods, including crossbows and rifles, and now carry Bowtech as of December 2019, said to be the smoothest hunting bows ever made.
Food and Gift Baskets
Walnut Creek Cheese, with locations in Berlin and Walnut Creek, started as a cheese truck route back in the 70s and has expanded over the years based on tenants of faith, hard work and integrity. The owners have acquired and founded other local staples, such as Coblentz Chocolate and Uncle Mike’s Beef Jerky—so they offer a variety of cheese, gifts, and even gift baskets. The stores are always a lot of fun to visit, and this store is so honest—if they owe you a credit, they’ll let you know, even if it’s just for six cents!
If you’re in the Sugarcreek area, you’ll definitely want to check out Dutch Valley Market, a country grocer offering high quality all-natural meats as well as Amish traditional foods. You can purchase an assortment of deli meats and cheeses, including rotisserie turkey and Gerber’s Amish Farm chicken, and they even have holiday hams and turkeys—perfect for Christmas!
Of course, there might be people on your list who don’t enjoy food or clothing, and fortunately there are a ton of gifts available for them, too! In Mt. Hope, Lone Star Quilt Shop has quilts, crafts, and purses from a variety of different local craftsmen, including fabric if you’d like to try your hand at quilting yourself. Helping Hands Quilts, is a similar store located in Berlin with everything you need to make the perfect quilt to remind you of your visit to Amish country.
In the Sugarcreek area, Dutch Valley Gifts has some beautiful home decor beautifully displayed in an old barn, and The Gospel Shop is sort of like a Hallmark store, featuring books, gifts, figurines, cards, and more—but everything is inspirational in nature. If you’re really feeling the joy of the holidays, you can also try out the Christmas store Tis the Season, “Ohio’s largest year round Christmas shoppe.”
There are so many stores, of course we couldn’t name them all, but feel free to scroll down to see our complete list of recommendations! You’ll probably need more than a day to check them all out, so we invite you to come stay with us at Hillside Hideaways to make the most out of your Amish Country Christmas vacation!
